MARCUS HAYNES JR. Mark was born in Perry, Kansas, on December 23, 1909, he passed away peacefully in his home on August 24, 2006, with his loving children at his side.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Marcus Haynes, Sr.; mother, Mary (Shepheard); his first wife, Lois (Ackermann), and second wife, Ruth (Matthews); two brothers, David and John, and one sister, Francis Haynes, all of Kansas; and one stepson, Robert Pierce, of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Mark is survived by five daughters, Kay Akers, Karmen Estlow, Kimberly Guthrie, Kandi Fusan, all of California; a daughter, Kitti Johnson of Georgia; and a son, David Haynes of Washington. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, David, Penni, Clifford, John, Cindy, Trevor, Dylane, Robert, Rachael, Evan and Kallie; and six gr eat-grandchildren, Tom, Mike, Justin, Emily, Hayden and Alannah; and many extended family members...

Mark grew up on a small family farm in Perry, Kansas, in an era that has almost come and gone; cultivating with horse and plow, riding on his favorite horse to a one-room school house, sometimes ice skating to school over frozen rivers and commuting to church on Sundays by horse and buggy. There were many hardships and few luxuries for their family but Mark spoke of his early days with great fondness. In the late 1930's, Mark moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he worked for the John Deer Company. He met his wife to be, Lois Ackermann, and soon moved to California, where he started to work for Lockheed Aircraft.

Soon, after he had saved enough money, he sent for Lois. They were married in 1942. They bought a small home and settled in Sun Valley. Mark and Lois eventually had five daughters and one son. After the war ended, Mark worked in construction as a lather. Mark undoubtedly gained a strong work ethic as a youth on the family farm in Kansas, continuing to work at various jobs long after most people would have retired... even working out of his home for over twenty years for his son-in-law's family printing business... until the age of 91!

He possessed a "country boy's" charm, with his dimpled smile and keen sense of humor. He loved traveling with his family, especially trips to Kansas and Iowa, fishing, working in his garden, and watching baseball, football and basketball games. He truly enjoyed being with his family, and they enjoyed him, spending many Father's Day celebrations in his back yard, with "homemade" ice cream and hot dogs. His deep commitment to the Lord was an inspiration to us all. He will be loved, admired and remembered forever, by all who knew him.
