Adelle G. Derrington, 80, of Marlin, entered into rest Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, after a long illness. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Rodney Kruse officiating. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Adams Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service Friday, at the Allen House.

Adelle was born in Dayton, Texas, to the late Charlie and Annie McClosky. She graduated from Dayton High School in 1945, and then attended Saint Joseph's School of Nursing in Houston, graduating 1949 as a registered nurse. Pursuing her nursing career back in Dayton, she met and married Darrell B. Derrington in November of 1952. Darrell's work took Adelle and the family to multiple Veteran's Administration posts including Biloxi, Marlin, Alexandria, LA, Temple, Albuquerque, Walla Walla, Stephens City and Woodbridge, Va., and Lexington, Ky., before returning to Marlin. Adelle's green thumb and gardening passion led her into active membership roles in Marlin's Community Garden Club, including its President for several years. She assisted with fundraising projects to help beautify Marlin and also participated in State Garden Club activities. Adelle was active, energetic, and an excellent cook.

Adelle was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell.

She is survived by her children, Darrell Jr. and his wife, Dolores, of Burke, Va., Randy, of Hayesville, N.C., Cheryl Mandelberg and husband, Michael, of Ellicott City, Md., and Ron and his wife, Shoeleh, of Houston; grandchildren, Roxie Derrington, Marie Mandelberg and Amy Mandelberg; and a brother, Adolph Alfred "Buddy" McClosky and his wife, Deanie, of Pasadena, Texas.
