Edna Ellingson, 86, of Ashby, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 8, 1913, in North Ottawa Township in Grant County, to Charley and Julia (Rustand) Larson. As a child she attended the Church of God, Hereford, country grade school and Elbow Lake schools. She spent a few years with her brother, Eldor and family at Parshall, N.D. She returned to Elbow Lake and worked much of the time at Glende Hotel and Cafe where she met Sidney Ellingson of Ashby. They were married Oct. 8, 1938 at Fergus Falls. During the early years of their marriage she was a homemaker, with her parents also living with them. When their children were all in school during the late 1950s she began working outside the home again. She was at The Farmers Equity for about 10 years and then began her most enjoyable job of chicken processing and ice making at the Farmers Produce. At the age of 79 she had to give up her work with the Ashby Business People. She kept busy with her church work, gardening and baking. She was known for many Scandinavian treats and the best donuts around. Mr. Ellingson died in January 1963 but she was able to maintain the home the family had shared. She lived in that house for 61 years except for a few winters spent in Arizona with her son and family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Ashby Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Ashby Senior Citizens.

She is survived by sons, Stanley (Joanne) of Ashby, Michael (Karen) of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Paul (Mary) of Ashby; a daughter, Janice of Ashby; grandchildren, Steven (Brenda) Ellingson, Susan (Steve) Thorsen, Sarah (Greg) Fultz, Clinton Ellingson, Stephen (Shawn) Ellingson, Sharon (Scott) Gullickson and Scott Ellingson; step-grandchildren, Gary (Sheryl) Lawrence, Greg (Diane) Lawrence, Steve Lawrence and Dawn Lawrence; 12 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Davis of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Donald Larson of Evansville; a sister-in-law, Ethel Larson of Elbow Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Eldor, Roy, Earl and Carl Larson; two sisters, Myrtle Larson and Agnes Gronwald Birge; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Ellingson.
