Born Feb. 22, 1918, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Eula Bolch Whitener.
She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton for 70 years and was a retired seamstress.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, James Lewis Sigmon Sr. of the home; three sons, James Lewis Sigmon Jr. and wife, Sondra, Stephen Douglas Sigmon and wife, Rosemary, and Henry Whitener Sigmon and wife, Kathy; eight grandchildren, James Lewis Sigmon III, Andrew Dale Sigmon, Shannon Sigmon Morrow, Douglas Harold Sigmon, Stephanie Sigmon Smith, Jeffrey Howard Sigmon, Jennifer Sigmon Huffman and Patrick Evan Sigmon; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rebecca Whitener Drum and Mary Whitener Hostetter.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Ralph Abernethy III will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2008, at the church. Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2103 Mt. Olive Church Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.
