After her marriage to Oscar Croan they moved west to Hood River, Oregon. It would be their home off and on for the years prior and during WWII. During the war years they resided in Portland and worked in the ship yards where Helen was a welder. After the war they returned to Hood River to the Pine Grove area where they purchased the ranch of Bliss L. Clark. There they put their roots down.
Helen was a very energetic person, working hard long hours in the orchard and her garden.
She had a very nice singing voice which she used in the Pine Grove Methodist Church, singing at funerals and weddings. She also taught Sunday School.
Being a member of the Pine Grove Grange she spent many hours working in the various function of the women's group there.
Even with all the things she managed to do she still found it within herself to pack fruit every fall and enter things in the local county fair.
She never gave up, even when she was diagnosed with cancer. She fought desperately right up until the end.
