Eddy was a very good friend to me. We met in 1975 in Imperial Beach, California. I had just moved there and he was best friends with my friend, we all hung out together. It was so long ago.
I wondered what had happened to Eddy, we lost touch. I googled his name and reached some cousins. This is how I found out just yesterday, that Eddy passed away a few years ago while he was living in Las Vegas. He had been working as a Chef.
He was a leather craftsman, he was a school teacher (high school math) and later in life, a Chef! He was such a cool guy, really!
Eddy was born in Central Texas, and he was raised in McCamey, Texas. I know there are many great and interesting stories about Eddy. I hope someday his friends and relatives will tell me so I can write them down here in Eddy's memory.
He was always happy to see someone and welcoming and generous.
Eddy used to let me come over and use his internet before I got my computer. I helped him set up his email. He liked to email his cousin Merlin in McCamey, Texas. He got to be a pro on the computer and used it to watch the horse races. He took me to the Del Mar Race Track and got my son and me into the paddock because his friends owned a part of a race horse, Eddie liked visiting the paddock and seeing all the goings on. He was so happy to have us accompany him there. Once he drove us up to the Viejas Indian Casino, I'd never been there.
He was very inventive, an entrepreneur at heart I think. For a time, Eddy had an industrial leather shop in Chula Vista, California, back in the 70's. He was always so generous. He had been a high school math substitute teacher for a while.
One of the things that he made were really cool stash bags out of leather that adjusted and strapped over your shoulder, laid flat under arm underneath clothing. At that time, a stash place may have gotten someone by in a tight situation. He placed an ad in "High Times" ;) Magazine. Those were fun days.
He moved back to Texas for quite a few years, then came back to Imperial Beach, Ca. His favorite singer was Barbra Streisand. When I told him she was married to James Brolin, he refused to believe me! He loved her.

home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Resthaven Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Richard W. Box Funeral Home. She was born Oct. 26, 1901, in
Bellville and was a longtime resident of McCamey. She was a Baptist. She is
survived by a son, Eddy Halamicek of McCamey.
