Lance Cpl. Daniel R. Bennett, 23,of Clifton, Va.; was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; died Jan. 11 in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, as a result of a non-hostile incident. He was currently assigned to H and S Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines. He is survived by his parents, James and Veronica Bennett; his brother, David Lockwood Bennett and two sisters, Colleen Marie and Laura Eileen Bennett. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Franklyn and Rita Angela Bennett and his maternal grandfather, Harold K. Lockwood. His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
