Ward Blocker, 85, of Idabel, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Idabel. He was born February 10, 1923 in Idabel, the son of R.C. and Eunice Ward Blocker. Ward married Elizabeth Anderson on November 27, 1947 in Idabel.
Ward was born and raised in Idabel. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of WWII. Ward was a pilot in the South Pacific where he flew in the Liberator Raids. In 1969 he retired as a Lt. Col. and commander of the support squadron of the 397th Military Airlift Group at Tinker AFB after 26 years of service. Ward lived many years in Stillwater where he was director of fiscal management of the O.S.U. Extension Service. After being gone for several years he and Elizabeth moved back home to Idabel in 1978.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Perrin; and a brother, Bryan Blocker.
Ward is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth of the home; his twin brother, Wade Blocker of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a nephew, David Blocker of Dayton, Ohio; his fishing buddy, Buster Gurley of Idabel; many other relatives and friends.
Services will be on Friday, January 2, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Conley-White Chapel. Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the funeral home.
