JOSEPH K OVERHOLT was born in Pennsylvania on Feb 3 1804 and was a son of William and Gertrude Kulp Overholt. His father was a farmer by pursuit and when past 40 years of age commenced preaching in the Mennonite Church a position he occupied until his death. In 1830 the family moved to Medina Co Ohio where William was the first minister of his denomination in the county.

When Joseph was 16 years old he began the shoemaker's trade which he followed ten years. He then became a farmer and a veterinary surgeon of local prominence. He was married Oct 15 1829 to Margaret Angelmyers was born in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania, Sept 11 1808. Their children were: Anna, Hannah, Mary, William H., Susannah, Margaret, Joseph A, John M, and Amelia.
