He was born to Jacob P and Alice Brand in Summitt Township IA, he was raised in eastern SD near Faulkton. He married Olive Crane at Faulton in 1928 teh lived on a farm north of Faulkton until moving to Ipswich, in 1934 they moved to Lead. On October 3,1976 he married Rose Williamson at Piedmont SD. They lived in Lead for two years them moved to Piedmont where they have lived since.
He is survived by his wife Rose in Piedmont, four sons, Orville of Frederick MD, Dale of San Antonio TX, Don of Lead and Melvin of Estes Park CO. one daughter Leona Ruffatto of Lead and two sisters Marie VAn Howeling of Prairie City IA, dn Cornelia Gillian of San Diego CA. He was preceded in death by his first wife Olive.
