Kenneth A. DeLong, Jr., age 65 of West Alexandria, OH passed away suddenly Sunday morning January 11, 2009. Born October 13, 1943 in Greenville, OH, he was the son of Kenneth A. DeLong, Sr. and Iris (Hartrum) DeLong. Ken was a 1962 graduate of West Alexandria High School and earned his Bachelors degree from Defiance College and his Masters degree from Wright State University. For 30 years he worked as a teacher and touched the lives of thousands of students before retiring in June of 1996. He was a kind and caring person who had a heart for young people. The first 16 years he taught at Twin Valley North in Lewisburg, followed by 14 years at Twin Valley South in West Alexandria. He was active in school athletic programs, serving as a football and track coach for a total of 41 years. He also served as both a ticket seller and ticket taker for South's Boys and Girls Basketball games. For a number of years he was the Senior Class Advisor and coordinated Commencement activities. Member of Jacob's Well Fellowship in Lewisburg, OH where he served as the Nursery Coordinator and a former member of the West Alexandria Lions Club. He is preceded in death by father Kenneth A. DeLong, Sr. in 1983; step father Jim Shiverdecker in 2002; father-in-law Robert Powell in 2008; and step mother Martha DeLong.

Ken was a loving and compassionate husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by wife Charlotte (Powell) DeLong whom he married March 30, 1968: sons & daughters-in-law Mike & Tracey DeLong and Jason R. & Jennifer DeLong all of West Alexandria: grandchildren Emily, Dalton, Sydnee, Ryan, Allison, and Logan: mother Iris Shiverdecker of New Lebanon, OH: sisters Kathryn Guntle & husband Don of Eaton, OH and Edith Pansing of Lewisburg: nieces and nephew Donna Koch & husband Warren, Beth Ann Rose & husband Jeff, Brenda Miller & husband Dean, Beth Wampler & husband Butch and David Guntle & wife Vickie: numerous great nieces and nephews: mother-in-law Pauline A. Powell of West Alexandria: sister-in-law Sue Macher & husband Bob of West Alexandria; and a host of friends and students he loved and cared about.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 14, 2009 with Pastor Jim Hazelwood presiding. Interment Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
