Abraham C. Brokaw was born Mar 2, 1773 in Somerset County, New Jersey and died Jul 23, 1826 in Warren Township, Jefferson County, Ohio at the age of 53.

He married Maria Stryker on Jan 8, 1792 in her father's house in Hillsborough Township, Somerset County. The Reverend John Duryea, pastor of the Reformed Dutch Church of Raritan at Somerville performed the ceremony. She was born Mar 12, 1775 and died Jun 25, 1856 at the age of 81. She was the daughter of Peter Stryker and Maria Van Nortwick.

Abraham C. Brokaw was drafted into the War of 1812 (War with Great Britain) at Flaggtown or Millstone, Hillsborough Township, Somerset County. He served in Captain Abraham Ditmar's Company of Infantry, Colonel John Freylinghuysen's Third Regiment, New Jersey Detailed Militia. He enlisted Sep 12, 1814 and was discharged Dec 9, 1814. For 2 months and 23 days' service he received 8 dollars per month for a total of $21.94. He was honorably discharged at Jersey City. For this service, he received Bounty Land Warrant number 95.043 for 40 acres of land in Ohio. His war record is file number BL. Wt 62,808-120-55.

In 1823, Abraham C. Brokaw moved to Ohio with his wife and seven of his children, leaving three married ones behind. His son Caleb had preceeded them to Warren Township, Jefferson County, Ohio.

After 2½ years there, Abraham died and was buried in Ohio.
