John N. Brooks was born June 2, 1857 in Granger Co., Tenn., died at his home 3 miles northeast of Kildare, Okla., January 12, 1922, at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 10 days. He was married to Frances Bacon in the year 1876. To this union two children were born, Erastus L., and Lucy. After losing his first companion he was again married to Millie Austin in the year 1882. Six children were born into this home, William A., Vialo, Iva, Henry E., Mattie and Hattie, who passed away in infancy. Bro. Brooks came to Cowley county, Kans., when a young man residing there until 1893 when he went to Oklahoma and settled on his homestead, where he lived until he was called to his coronation. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife and seven children, Erastus L., Lucy and Harry, of Kildare, Okla., William of Burden, Kan., Mrs. S.A. Anpperle of Tillsburg, Kans., Mrs. R.E. Harris, Mrs. R.E. Walton, of Blackwell, Okla., a brother Edward P. Brooks of Cambridge, Kans., two sisters, Mrs. Ella Underwood of Burden, Kan., and Mrs. C.R. Smith of Winfield, Kans., and nineteen grandchildren living, ten having passed away. Bro. Brooks was converted in the year of 1907 uniting with the church of Kildare, Oklahoma, about eighteen months after sanctified.

His church will miss his presence and counsel. He was a close observer of man of good judgement, successful in business and prosperous, but did not forget his obligations to God or the great needs of the world. His life is a challenge to everyone that knows his promising what God can do with a man that will give him a chance. Funeral services were held from Kildare, Okla., Sunday at 1 o'clock. Interment was made in the Mausoleum in Winfield, Kan. Relatives and friends from this vicinity who attended the funeral were Roy Millard, Omer Shivley, Cal Dyer, R.O. Brooks, Dr. E.E. Brooks, W.G. Brooks and family; Mrs. Ella Underwood and family, E.P. Brooks.
