Mr. Paulk enlisted August 28, 1862 in
Company 'I' , 50th Georgia Volunteer Infantry
C.S.A.
which was a company made up mainly of Berrien County men which he served through the war.
He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on April 1864 and in April 1865, just before the surrender, he was assigned to the Ambulance Corps. on account of rheumatism in his knee.
In 1920 his Confederate Pension application was granted.
