On June 30, 1870, Bingham applied for a veteran's pension (app. #158,881; cert. #141,624 - Indiana). That same year, the Apples were enumerated in the 1870 U.S. Census as residents of Unionville, Orange Co., IN. Julia's sister Virginia Brubeck (b. @1843) was listed as a resident of the Apple household in Greenfield Twp, Orange Co., IN according to the 1900 & 1910 U.S. Censuses. Bingham passed away at age 75 on Dec. 22, 1919. Julia was approved for a widow's pension on Jan. 12, 1920 (app. #1,151,199; cert. #885,273 - Indiana). The Apples, who were married for more than 54 years, are buried together in Teaford Cemetery, Greenfield Twp., Orange Co., IN.
