McGUIRE, Harold Dean, 74, of Richmond, passed away January 8, 2009. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Annie L. McGuire; his daughters, Deana Buck and her husband, Steven, and their children, Emma and Annie, and Lori Ferguson and her husband, Ron, and their children, Christine and Will. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Sharon Mason; and a special family friend, Joanita Senoga and her children, Josie and Jemi. He is also survived by his sisters, Lucille Bowling, Peggy (Gil) Sayres and Lois Ayersman; and his brother, Wiley (Nadine) McGuire. He will be sorely missed by Molly, his ever-present cocker spaniel companion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lula McGuire; a brother, Travis; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Farmer. Harold served in the U.S. Navy. He was devoted to his family, church and community. He was an active member of Good Shepherd UMC and a Life Member of Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad (joined in 1974). He retired from C&P Telephone Company (Verizon) in 1990 - just in time to spend time with his favorite people - his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, NASCAR racing, Myrtle Beach, golfing and spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger and left everyone he met better off for having known him. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 11, at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, January 12, at 1 p.m. at Good Shepherd UMC, 9155 Hungary Road. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that all well wishers intending to honor Harold make donations to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (Capital Fund) or Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad, 1101 Horsepen Road, Richmond, Va. 23229.
