ROBERT C. BLALOCK
ABBEVILLE. . .Robert C. Blalock, a resident of Abbeville, died early Saturday morning, January 10, 2009, at his home. He was 89.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Monday, January 12, 2009, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Reverend Steven Gregg officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P. M. Sunday at the mortuary.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Abbeville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, AL. 36310.

Mr. Blalock was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, son of the late Julian Blalock and Mary Windham Blalock. A graduate of Abbeville High School, he served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II where he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, an Overseas Bar, a Service Stripe and was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. Mr. Blalock was retired from the Abbeville Post Office as Assistant Postmaster and Clerk. He also formerly co-owned and operated the Henry County Livestock Association. Mr. Blalock was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Bradley-Keller American Legion Post, Henry Masonic Lodge No. 91, the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs and the Henry County Historical Society. He was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Mae Bence and three brothers, Leonard Blalock, Colonel Bill R. Blalock and James Blalock.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Elaine R. Blalock, Abbeville; a son, Cullen Blalock and wife, Barbara Blalock, Easley, S.C.; a step-daughter, Shalah Cox Cozart and husband, Tom Cozart, Dothan; a step-son, Edward Cox and wife, Connie Cox, Ft. Gaines, GA.; a sister-in-law, Edith Blalock, Abbeville; eight grandchildren, Robby Blalock and wife, Janette Blalock, Danny Blalock and wife, Estelle Blalock, Gena Hooper and husband, Keith Hooper, Barbara Jones and husband, Eric Jones, Julia Pearson and husband, Ken Pearson, Chris Ashbee, Blake Ashbee and wife, Carrie Ashbee, Megan Harrell and husband, Guy Harrell; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Keith Hooper, Eric Jones, Robby Blalock, Guy Harrell, Chris Ashbee, Blake Ashbee, Mike Blalock and Jackey T. Harpe.
