In 1860, they were living in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where Augustus may have been working at the family brewing business. The family is in the 1860 census as "Frank."
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of eighteen in Lancaster August 6, 1862, mustered into federal service there August 11 as 1st corporal of Co. B, 122nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 15, 1863.
He married Emma LNU. and fathered Susan L. (b. @1867 - married Charles Mulock Rowe).
