He was born in Hamilton to Mark Doyle and Artie Faye Cole Manning. He graduated from Dublin High School and Abilene Christian University. He receive his master's degree from Hardin-Simmons University. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Mary Beth Clifton 59 years ago. For the past 50 years he served as minister to a number of Churches of Christ in Texas. For the past 22 years he preached for the Nolanville congregation.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Beth Manning of Temple; two daughters, Mrs. Homer (Regina Ann) Jackson of Midland and Mrs. Richard (Manette) Scanio of Corpus Christi; a brother, Billy Floyd Manning of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
