Edna Newell was born Sept. 4, 1893, in Sterling, to Harry Christian and Pearl Maude (Manning) Newell. She was educated in Sterling elementary schools.
She married Jesse James Houseman on May 6, 1915, in Dixon. He died Nov. 16, 1944. She farmed with her husband in the rural Morrison area until his death when she moved to Morrison where she has resided since. She was employed by the former Brick House Restaurant as a baker for 15 years.
She was a member of Morrison Untied Methodist Church and a member of Round Grove Thimble Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Nathaniel (Janet) Gould of Palmetto, Fla.,; one son, James B. Houseman of Clinton, Iowa; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leona Salmon of Sterling and Mildred Dunmore and Cora Ebeling of Morrison.
She is preceded in death by her husband; one grandson; four sisters; and four brothers.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
