Edgar Houseman, lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant township and widely known in this community, passed away at 12:50 o'clock this afternoon at his residence four miles east of Morrison, after having been critically ill the past several days.
At the time of his demise he had reached the age of 85 years, five months and 17 days. He was born in this township March 24, 1862, the son of James and Elizabeth Houseman, pioneer residents, and he was the last of a family of five children born to this union.
Married Nora Phelps
He was married to Miss Nora Phelps, a native of Lawrence county, New York, on June 2, 1886, or 61 years ago. They were married in Morrison by Rev. Miller, then pastor of the local Methodist church. They have spent their entire married life on their present farm excepting for the short time they lived at Emerson. A number of years ago they erected a new modern home on the Houseman homestead and have lived there since. He retired as a farmer a number of years ago and in years past was one of the more progressive farmers of this community.
Survivors
He leaves to mourn his death his widow, three sons, Floyd of Sterling, Fred of east of Morrison, and Kenneth Houseman of Clinton, Iowa, and also one daughter, Mrs. Ward Lewis of this city. In the family circle are also 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, a son Jesse Houseman who passed away in 1945, and a great grandchild who died a few weeks ago.
Funeral arrangements had not been made this afternoon.
