Niels Peter Christensen
FAIRVIEW —Niels Peter Christensen, 83, life-long resident of Sanpete County, died at the family home here Friday at 5 a.m. after a lingering illness.
He was born in Denmark Sept. 26, 1867, a son of Christian and Doretha Larsen Christensen. He came to the United States at the age of (illegible, 9?), settling in Ephraim. He later took up farming.
He married Elnore Larsen in 1890 in the Manti Temple. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She died in 1926, and nine years later he married Mary Jane Hughes Thomas in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple.
As a youth, Mr. Christensen assisted in construction of the Manti LDS Temple by hauling rocks from Pigeon Hollow. He also helped build three reservoirs and for 10 years was superintendent of Mammoth Reservoir. He also was superintendent on construction of Skyline Dr. Highway.
A high priest in the LDS Church he had filled a six-months mission.
Surviving are his widow; four sons, Edgar Christensen, Burley, Ida.; Linden Christensen, Spanish Fork; Buford and Afton Christensen, Fairview: two daughters. Mrs. Dora Cox, Draper, and Mrs. Venna Sanders, Fairview; 33 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in Fairview North Ward Chapel, by Sylvan Peterson, bishop.
Friends may call at the family home from 9 a.m. Monday until time of services. Burial will be in Fairview City Cemetery.
