OBITUARY:

Roy Gene Houpt, 92, of Speedway, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009. He was born January 25, 1916 in Sullivan to the late Roy and Mary (Robertson) Houpt. Gene worked at Allison for 35 years. He was a volunteer fireman in Speedway and a track fireman at the Indianapolis Speedway for 32 years. He and his wife loved to square-dance and had been members of the Westwood Camping Club. Gene is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris (Pemberton) Houpt; son, David Houpt and wife, Melody; daughters, Linda Miller, husband, John, Christy Potts, husband, Gary, and Barbara Jansons, husband, Uldis; sister, Mary Armstrong; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence and Clinton and sisters, Dorothy and Helen. Private committal services will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Indiana. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
