Dr. George W. Harrison's parents were:
Joseph Mason Harrison (1816 - 1886)
Pernina Elenor Gunnels Harrison (1821 - 1898)
-----

George died at 10 a.m. on Aug. 2, 1910. Dr. J. B. Hancock who saw him after he died basically indicated that from symptoms described to him, that his death was probably due to Entero Colitis finally resulting in apoplexy from violent vomiting for one day. George has a history of eating meat partially under cooked, which resulted in Ptomaine poisoning but no physician was called until too late. George had lived 58 years, 6 months, & 10 days.

News about his death was published in The Neosho Times on Thursday, August 4, 1910:
"Dr. G.W. Harrison Dies Suddenly from Apoplexy.
Dr. G.W. Harrison of Chester, prominent citizen and successful physician died very suddenly and unexpectedly Tuesday morning between nine and ten o'clock at his home in Chester. The cause of his sudden death seems to have been apoplexy brought on by acute indigestion and violent vomiting. Dr. Harrison was as well as usual Monday and it is said that he ate very heartily of ripe peaches and fresh beef. He complained of being sick in the morning, but didn't think it serious and refused to allow his wife to call a doctor. He was feverish, however, and drank considerable water and began vomiting. This continued for some time and he finally called for a small glass of whiskey to settle his stomach. He was at one seized with another spell of violent vomiting and coughing and while his wife's back was turned his head fell back and he was dead when she looked at him again.

Dr. Harrison was one of the best known men in the county and the news of his death spread rapidly and caused great surprise and sorrow.

Dr. Harrison has lived in Newtonia township since 1875, coming there from Tennessee where he was born in 1852. He practiced medicine and was also engaged in farming. He had a drug store in Newtonia for many years and about two years ago moved over to the new town of Chester.

He was a prominent Democrat and was elected to many offices of honor by his party. He was elected to the legislature in 1884 and in 1900 was a candidate for state railroad commissioner. He has served as a member and chairman of the county committee and often as chairman of county conventions.

He was known and recognized as a man of ability and influence throughout the county. Dr. Harrison was a member of the Odd Fellows' lodge and was buried yesterday by that order at Newtonia."
