Carrol Times Herald - Monday , October 15th, 1945 - Arcadia - Funeral services are to be at 9:30 Tuesday morning at St. John's church in Arcadia for Joseph Hoelscher, 56 year old farmer, who died almost instantly Saturday after being kicked by a horse. Rev Father Stork pastor, will offer the requiem mass. Burial will be in the family lot in the parish cemetery.
The body was returned to the family home south and east of Arcadia from the Olerich Funeral home in Carroll Sunday afternoon, to rest there until the hour of the rites.
Mr. Hoelscher's death occurred on the family homestead, where his mother lives. He operated a place just east of the home farm. Early Saturday evening, as he was preparing to go to his place, he was leading a team of horses, when one of the animals took fright and
kicked him over the heart. He died at 6:20.
Mr. Hoelscher, born Nov. 14, 1886, in Arcadia township, near Arcadia, spent his life in that vicinity. He was a son of Mrs. Elizbeth Hoelscher and the late Anton Hoelscher. He lived two and one-half miles south and one mile east of Arcadia, which is about one-half mile east of the place of his birth. Mr. Hoelscher was unmarried.
Besides his mother, he leaves the following brothers and sisters, Henry and Frank Hoelscher, on the old home place with their mother, Mrs. John Olberding,(Mary), Carroll; Clem Hoelscher, Carroll, and Mrs. Joe Dentlinger (Anna), Arcadia .
His father died July 2, 1919. Two sisters preceded him in death, Josephine, at the age of two years, and Magdalena, seven years.
He was a member of St. John's church, Arcadia.
