Roy D. Hughes, 57, husband of Marie Hughes, died Monday, September 20, 1950 in Covington, KY after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Hughes collapsed at the West Fifth Street home of his cousin, Covington Detective Emmett Ireland.

At the time of his death Mr. Hughes was visiting in Covington to make arrangements for the wedding of his daughter, Rose Marie Hughes, the following Saturday. The Covington Life Squad responded, but Mr. Hughes had already expired when they arrived.

Mr. Hughes was a resident of Bathgate Street, Cincinnati, Ohio at the time of his death. He was an former bus driver for the Cincinnati Street and Railway Company and was employed as a nightwatchman in the utility's Winton Place yards.

Mr. Hughes was the son of Augustus (Gus) Hughes, who preceded him in death and Flora Works Hughes, who survives. He was the grandson of Joseph and Sarah Ann Hale Hughes. Roy was a native of Cynthiana, KY.

In addition to his wife, mother, and daughter, Mr. Hughes was survived by four sons; PFC Roy Hughes, Jr., then stationed in Germany, Corp. Paul Hughes of the U. S. Marines, then stationed in North Carolina, and Howard Hughes and Ernest Hughes, both at home; two brothers, Lester Hughes of Bethel, OH and Ernest G. Hughes of Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky and two sisters, Mrs. Orlie Hughes Dunn of Harrison County, KY and Mrs. Loretta Hughes Fields (Moses Fields) of Leesburg, Harrison CO, Ky.

Services were held in Cincinnati, Ohio and burial was in Highland Cemetery.
