COLUMBUS, OHIO - Ralph D. Battey, a Fairhope native and Columbus resident, died Thursday, October 5, 2000, in a Columbus hospital. He was 86. Battey, who graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, worked in management for the Oliver Corporation in Charles City, Iowa for 38 years. He was also a member of the Quaker Meeting in Fairhope and attended Holy Trinity Lutheran in Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Margaret V. Richter of Columbus; four children, John C. Battey of Grand Rapids, Mich., Martha Niemela of White Bear Lake, Minn., Thomas E. Battey of West St. Paul, Minn. and James H. Battey of Omaha, Neb.; four step-children, Craig M. Richter, Bruce A. Richter, Janet V. Boyer and Jay D. Richter; his brother, Richard Battey of Fairhope; three sisters, Lois Williams, Ruth Rockwell and Bertha Battey, all of Fairhope; 11 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests any memorials be made to the Fairhope Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 757, Fairhope, AL 36533 or a charity of your choice in his memory. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fairhope Funeral Home & Crematory, followed by services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Quaker Cemetery in Fairhope.
