Doris J. Zimmerman
Doris Jane Zimmerman, 75, of West Lafayette, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at her residence at University Place in West Lafayette.
Born on June 7, 1933, in New Castle, she was the daughter of F. Lester McNew and Margaret G. Houston. She married Richard D. Zimmerman on April 6, 1957, in New Castle, and he survives.
Other survivors include her mother; a son, David R. (wife, Linda) Zimmerman of Lafayette; daughters, Denise (husband, Mark) Hilton of West Lafayette and Diane (husband, Jim) Francis of Stevensville, Md.; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Zimmerman was a graduate of New Castle High School and received her bachelor of science degree from Manchester College and her master of science degree from Indiana State University.
She was a teacher for 25 years and worked at Little Marion and Coulston elementary schools.
Mrs. Zimmerman was an active member of Shelbyville's First Christian Church, belonged to many social clubs and was active in the PEO Sisterhood and the ADK Teachers Association.
She enjoyed quilting and sewing and loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends.
Friends are invited to gather from 11 a.m. to noon and attend a public memorial service at noon Saturday at University Place, 1700 Lindberg Road, West Lafayette.
A private family burial will take place at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 118 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, IN 46176, or St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1501 Hartford St. Lafayette, IN 47904.
