Carrie M. Banks died Tuesday, June 12, 1996, in Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Banks, in 1974; and grandson, Paul Banks, in 1988.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Banks; and a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie Lee Banks and Betsy Banks, all from Austin; three grandsons and their wives, Jimmie Dean and Dayna Banks, Austin, Skip and Veniece Banks, New York, Martin Kent and Tracy Banks, Austin. Also six great-grandchildren, Madison, Brittany, Ryan, Kaytlynn, Brian, and Stephanie.

Services are to be held Saturday, June 15, 1996, at 10:00 a.m., Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends and visitors at Weed-Corley-Fish from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Those to honor her by serving as pallbearers are Black Bird, Brian Whitfield, Kent Huggins, Stacy Huggins, J. Will Huggins, and Dickie Huggins. Honorary pallbearer will be Richard Lawler.

Carrie was born in Jappa, Texas, on April 16, 1916. She and her family moved to Austin in 1939, where she had resided continually to her death. She was the last of 10 children born to Blackston and Fannie Maud Huggins.

She was an ardent fan of athletics, playing with the women's major league from 1941 to 1950. At the young age of 80, she was a full time employee at the Texas Press Association, where she had served for 35 years. Her legacy to all her family, whom she cherished, are the gifts of love for one another and a sense of humor, a desire to do well, and respect for our fellow man.

The family wishes to thank Dr. George W. Lowe, Dr. Steven Kryck, Dr. Stephen Settle, the St. David's hyperbaric team and the ICU staff doctors and ICU nurses at Austin Diagnostic Medical Center.
