Some researchers show his 1st name as Benjamin. Based on "close to person" records and information, I'm comfortable that his name is Bennie. Sources include; Family Bible entry of his birth, in his father's handwriting (courtesy of his great niece, who knew him and likewise says "Bennie") and his WWI signed Draft Registration. Supportive sources include his death record, obituary and headstone.

BROTHER of Charlie Summerfield, Barshaba Jane, Isaac Carroll and Johnnie Whitfield.

HUSBAND of; 1st Susie Fowler (1884-1910), wed Jan. 4, 1905.
2nd Lillie F. Whitt (1891-1934), wed Oct. 10, 1912.

Obituary courtesy of Ruth Hasten Walsh, from the Athens Alabama Courier, Thursday November 11, 1954 p. 9 ARDMORE NEWS (from last week) : The grim reaper struck again Friday night. Bennie Gatlin walked out from his home near here and made a bus trip to Athens and back and at 4 o'clock that afternoon the lady who did laundry went to take it him and found him on the floor where he had suffered a stroke and only lived a few hours. His funeral was held at the Baptist church Sunday with burial in the Gatlin cemetery. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Jene Campbell of Fayetteville and a granddaughter; two brothers, Charlie Gatlin of Hartselle and John Gatlin of Huntsville.
