Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Deupree Avant of Quitman, who died Sunday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock in a Gladewater hospital, were held in Athens Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home chapel.

The services were conducted by the Rev. S.H. Maples, pastor of the First Baptist church of Athens, and the Rev. Joe Berry, pastor of the First Christian church of Palestine. Burial was in the City cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Hosie Kern and Bill Hamilton of Kilgore, Lee Boortz and Jake Hamilton of Quitman, T.A. Carroll of Tennessee Colony and A.D. Downs of Palestine.

Mrs. Avant, a native of Athens and former resident of Tennessee Colony, is survived by her husband, A.S. Avant of Quitman; her mother, Mrs. Katie Deupree of Athens; four sisters, Lois Deupree and Mrs. F.B. Williams of Fort Worth, Mrs. Douglas Evans of Athens and Mrs. Florence McElhaney of Denton; and four brothers, Tom and Walton Deupree of Athens and Byron and Joe Deupree of the U.S. Air Corps.
