daughter of Judge Richard George Fields (1808 – 28 Feb 1873) and Lydia Shorey (-12 Sep 1844)

Around 1834, Judge Fields sent Lizzie and her sister Amanda (-8 Aug 1849) to Keene NH to be tutored privately (by Mary Morse Parker) then later at the newly opened Keene Academy. They lived with their tutor Mary Morse Parker and became close with her family, including Mary's brother Elijah Parker, a professor at Dartmouth College.
