Ione D. Nigh
Ione D. Nigh, 83, Arpin, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, in the town of Arpin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Martens/Kundinger Funeral Home, Junction City. The Rev. T.J. Schneider will officiate. Burial will take place in Plainfield Cemetery in the town of Plainfield, Waushara County, and serving as pallbearers will be Marty Nelson, Matthew Kohl, Daniel Nelson, Nick Nigh, Mitch Nigh and Brandon Pearson. Honorary pallbearers will be Elizabeth and Katherine Kohl and Heather Nigh. The visitation will be held at Martens/Kundinger Funeral Home, Junction City, on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Ione was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Caledonia, Minn., to Peter and Elizabeth (Hoschiet) Ellenz. She attended La Crosse-area schools. On Nov. 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Emery E. "Teen" Nigh Sr. in Plainfield. He died on Dec. 26, 1990. She and her husband farmed for many years in the Plainfield area and then in 1958 relocated to the Sherry area where they continued to farm. She also was employed at Sherry Dairy.
Ione enjoyed gardening, flowers and caring for all animals. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone needing it, including giving people a place to stay. She opened her home to nieces and nephews during the summer and school vacations to help her sisters when they were in times of need. She was a very caring person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was a member of the Sherry Homemakers Club and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 209 of Orfordville.
She is survived by her children, Emery "Tex" (Brenda) Nigh Jr. of Arpin, Penny (Joe) Bastian of Janesville, Montana (George) Kohl of Dorchester, and Henry "Hank" (Cheryl) Nigh of Milladore. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Marty Nelson, Daniel (Angie) Nelson, Elizabeth Kohl and Matthew Kohl, Katherine Kohl, Nicholas, Mitchell and Heather Nigh and a great-grandson David Nelson.
She is further survived by her beloved dog, Buttons.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Lynda at birth; two brothers and twin sisters.
