Merrill (Merle) Jordan Brevik, 59, of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away with family and friends present at Abbott Northwestern hospital in Minneapolis of Congestive heart failure on Saturday December 18, 1999.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 22, 1999 at 11:00 AM in the Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Pastor Gary Graff Officiating. Burial will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 1999 from 5 – 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service and also one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday all at Bethany Lutheran Church.
Merle was born on November 24, 1940 son of Willard and Agnes (Spilde) Brevik at Greenbush, MN. Merle grew up in the Karlstad area. He was baptized at Oslo Lutheran Church in Kennedy, MN. Merle graduated from Karlstad High School and the Thief River Falls Vocational Technical school.
On June 3, 1961 Merle married Fern Margaret Anderson at Zion Lutheran Church in Karlstad, MN. He was employed at Wilson Brothers Company in Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls as Parts Manager for more than 31 years. He was manager of the Red Lake Falls store for 24 of those years. He spent the last 6 years at Red River New Holland in Crookston as parts manager.
Merle served on the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and was involved in the Men's Bible Study. He also served on the Red Lake Falls school board, the Red Lake Falls City council and was a leader for the Boy Scouts of America.
Merle is survived by a family that loved him very much, his wife Fern Brevik of Red Lake Falls, MN, sons Kent (Mary) Brevik of St. Louis Park, MN, Kevin (Sarah) Brevik of Red Lake Falls, MN, daughter Kristen (fiancée Kevin Cochran) of Fargo, ND, granddaughter Arielle Jordan and grandson Lars Andrew of Red Lake Falls, MN. Mother Agnes Brevik of Karlstad, MN. Sisters Beverly Ekdahl of Kennedy, MN, Eileen (Neil) Theisen of Roseau, MN, brother Roger (Frances) Brevik of Phoenix, AZ, brother-in-law Phillip Haider of Thief River Falls, MN. Many nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends survive merle.
He is preceded in death by his father Willard in 1987, sister Janet Haider in 1998 and brother-in-law Edward (Bobby) Ekdahl in 1988.
Merle will be remembered for the love he had for his wife, family, friends, his work and his ability to sit and listen without talking, along with his laughter and jokes.
