Command Sergeant Major Tracy Wilburn Strother, US Army(retired) passed away Dec. 29, 2008, in Copperas Cove, Texas. He was born July 12, 1939, in Beaumont, Texas to Clarence Ellison and Ileta LaMerle (Jones) Strother. He was a 1957 graduate of Vidor High School in Vidor, Texas.

He had lived in Central Texas since 1985. He retired from the U.S. Army and from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was a member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the Copperas Cove VFW Post and the Retired Sergeants Major Association.

Strother was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Darrell Hicks.

Survivors include his wife, Edy Strother of Copperas Cove; two sons, Carey Strother of Burnet County and Troy Strother of Mesa, Ariz.; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Averette of Kempner; and two sisters, Sandy Kerl of Woodville and Barbara Meyers of Livingston.
