Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 17, 1979 at 4:00 p.m. for Elsie Yates at the Shurden Chapel. Rev. Ken Shaw officiated.
Mrs. Yates, age 69, died at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
Elsie's parents were William Benjamin Allen (see photo on page 2 of pictures of this memorial) and Allie Victoria Bearden Allen(see picture to the right). Her mother is buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Henryetta, OK. See her picture (see photo on page 2 of pictures of this memorial). Her father (see photo on page 2 of pictures of this memorial) reportedly died in Crumwell, AR and was buried there. However, this town couldn't be found. He was believed buried in Newton, Co.
She had 5 siblings, Minnie Elizabeth (or Elizebth) Allen Daniels, Leo Otto Allen, Ida B. Allen McLeland Capps, William Harley Allen, Joseph "Joe" Erin Allen. See picture to the right of Joe.
Elsie married Tom Yates. They had 5 children: Tommy Joe Yates, born Nov. 4, 1930 - died 23 Nov. 2006 - buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Henryetta, OK; Richard Lee Yates, born Jan. 4, 1932; Pleaze (or Plaze or Plaz--on his marker) Yates born Feb. 18, 1934 - died Aug. 1975 - buried in West Lawn Cemetery in Henryetta, OK; Thelma Yates born Mar. 7, 1936; and Curtis Ray Yates born Mar. 22, 1939.
Survivors at the time of her death were Tommie Yates of Henryetta, Richard Yates of Wichita Falls, TX, Roy Yates of Midwest City, OK, and Thelma Witham of Weleetka.
Elsie was a very caring, unselfish person who helped many people. She never hesitated to take children or adults into her home to help them. She is still really missed and thought about today.
