Mrs. Jessie Pomeroy of Mesa, died yesterday at 9 o'clock a.m. Mrs. Pomeroy, or "Aunt Jessie," as she was called by all who knew her, was 62 years of age, having born in England, and when 16 years old came to America, going to Utah with the handcart company that crossed the plains in 1856. This experience was as hard as usually falls to the lot of mortals but this girl endured it, assisting in pulling a two wheeled cart over 200 miles through a wilderness, surrounded at times by savages, who were more anxious than the wolves for the scalps of the travelers. In 1877, in company with her family and others she came to Arizona and has since lived in Mesa.
