Kathleen Daines Bate, 80, died on Friday, December 26, 2008. She resided at 359 East 1050 North in Bountiful, Utah at the time of her death.

She was born February 6, 1928 to Dr. Hazen Benjamin Daines and Sarah Emmaline Buck Daines in New York City, NY. She married Louis B. Bate, Jr. on October 3, 1947 in Evanston, Wyoming. She attended schools in Smithfield, Utah; Preston, Idaho; East Orange, New Jersey; Portland, Corvallis, and Pendleton, Oregon; and Boise, Idaho.

She graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville and subsequently attended Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University), where she was a member of Chi Omega. She always claimed she had a well-rounded education. After her marriage, Kathleen lived in Logan, Price, Salt Lake City and Bountiful, where she has lived since 1953. From 1965 until 1975 she was head librarian at the South Branch of the Davis County Library. A fast and voracious reader, she averaged reading about one book a day after her retirement.

She is survived by a daughter and son, Rebecca B. Sperry, Bountiful; Michael H. Bate (Marge), Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren, Deanna Forssell (Ryan), Richardson, Texas; Susanne Shaner (Kevin), Dallas, Texas; Berkeley Bate (Sheri) Bartlett, Tennessee; Clark Sperry, Bountiful; Emily Wright (Michael), Pleasant Grove; Kyle Bate (Melanie), Gilbert, Arizona. She is survived by six great-grandchildren whom she adored, Autumn Forssell, Dillon Shaner, Ethan Newman, Joshua Forssell, Graham Bate, and Preston Bate. Kathleen is also survived by one sister, Delva Daines, South Jordan; and her only niece, Sally Blunck, Bountiful. She is preceded in death by her sweet husband of 60 years, Louis B. Bate, her father and mother, and infant sister, Karen.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Bountiful 10th/27th Ward Chapel, 1145 North 200 East, where friends and family may call on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment-Smithfield Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
