Sat night, Sept 25, 1909, at half after seven at the home of her daughter, Mrs Alexander Leonard, Mrs Stephen Jacobs passed peacefully away at the advanced age of 87 yrs 1 mo and 19 days. In the death of Mrs Jacobs, Monroe County loses another of her pioneers who lived in the vicinity of Erie long before the forests and Indians had entirely disappeared. She posessed a remarkable memory and many interesting and pleasing historical facts were told by her. Death was the result of her extreme age and came as a kindly messenger to reward her long service with well earned rest. Deceased was formerly Irene Cousino born at LaSalle Aug 6 1822. March 2 1840 she was married to Stephen Jacobs by Rev Fr Warlop in the old frame church at Erie. The union was blessed with 9 children,7 of whom are living: Mrs A Leonard and Eli of Erie; Mrs Jos Simon and Enos of Toledo; Mrs Chas Yonke of Swanton OH; Joseph of South Dakota; and Alex of Ironville OH. From her own family of 7 children 62 grandchildren were born, 49 survive. There are 42
great grandchildren who live to honore and revere their venerable ancestor. Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers: Prentice & Arthur Jacobs, Fred & Emil Simon, and Raphael & Chas Leonard. The funeral occurred from St Joseph's church. The beautiful and touching words spoken by Rev Fr Wolfstyne in a most officient manner added much to the imposing service. The church was filled with relatives and friends, the funeral was one of the largest ever held in the church. The St Anne society of which she was a faithful and devoted member, turned out in a large number to accompany the remains to their last resting place.
