She was born in Wendell, daughter of George Haywood and Pauline Griffin Scarborough. She was the widow of Maxwell Hanna, Jr. and Samuel L. Strain. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
She was a graduate of Wendell High School, Class of 1949 and attended Mars Hills College, Wake Forest University and graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1954. She was a lifetime member of the Wendell Christian Church and was involved on several boards, committees and groups within the church and was an active member of the Council of Churches. Mrs. Strain was an active member of community organizations and clubs in Wendell.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. onm Saturday, January, 2001, at the Wendell Christian Church. Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery.
Surviving are her children, Sallie Joe Hanna, Helen "Tottie" Strain, Andrew M. Hanna and Timothy G. Hanna, all of Wendell; grandchildren, JoHanna McGhee, Evan Hanna and Jake Hanna.
She was preceded in death by her sisters and brother, Candace Tongue, Sallie Haywood Scarborough and Griffin Scarborough.
The family would like to express their gratitude for all the support and love from family and friends throughout her battle with cancer.
