Dorothy F. (Jenzell) Hawkins, 89, formerly of 22 Fairview Lane, Naugatuck, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Abbott Terrace Health Center in Waterbury. She was the widow of John E. Hawkins.
Mrs. Hawkins was born Feb. 19, 1919, in Naugatuck, a daughter of the late Edward and Madeline (Pranitis) Jenzell. She attended local schools and graduated from Naugatuck High School. She retired from the Homer D. Bronson Co. where she was secretary to the president and vice president. After her retirement she worked at Delson Hinge in Wolcott and the Chittenden Insurance Agency in Naugatuck.
She leaves a sister, Phyllis Jenzell of Naugatuck. She was predeceased by daughter, Darlene L. (Hawkins) Bragg.
Dorothy was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and sister. She had the most wonderful, happy personality and was an accomplished seamstress, cook and baker. She will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Abbott Terrace Health Center, 2-West, for the wonderful care they provided Dorothy during the last three years she was a patient there.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hillside Covenant Church Memorial Fund, 100 Hillside Ave., Naugatuck 06770.
