David Henry Tart died in his home. He was born in Marion county, SC and had lived in Jacksonville, FL where he took charge of the Union Naval Stores Yard. In 1915 he started the Tart Cooperage Co. and acquired plants in Palatka, Valdosta and Savannah, GA, DeQuincey, LA and Jacksonville. He was a distributor for the Pan-Am Petroleum Corp and later for the American Oil Co. At the time of his death he was on the board of the Salvation Army, a life member of Escambia Lodge #15 f. & A. M., Mason and a Shriner of Morocco Temple Jacksonville, FL. He leaves behind his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth McGowan Russell Tart, son, Henry Tart, Jr., of Valdosta, and daughter Mrs. Mildred Tart Rood; seven grandchildren, David Henry Tart, III, Tommy Tart, Timothy Tart, Arthur B. Rood, Jr., Judith N. Rood and Robin D. Rood; and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Tart Crawford of Orlando. The funeral was held at the First Methodist church, Pensacola, where he was a steward and trustee.
