William Andrew McCoy was my paternal grandfather. He worked for many years as the City Bridge Foreman for London, Ontario, with the responsibility of maintaining the city's bridges. His wife Lillian May (née Davis) was frequently unwell and occasionally hospitalized. His son Samuel (my father) once told me that during the worst of the Depression, William would come home on his lunch hour to boil a single potato for each of his boys, then return to work without having eaten anything himself.

William had three brothers and three sisters: Charles (a.k.a. Charlie*), Robert S., Alexander (a.k.a. Alex), Violet (who married Frank Hardy), Clara (married George Brian), and Mary (married Claude Chappell - not sure of the surname's spelling).

William died in 1971 as a result of complications from diabetes. He was survived by his sons Samuel William ("Sam"), Harry Everett, and William Alexander ("Bill"). He was predeceased by a stillborn daughter (1930), his youngest son Ronald Charles ("Ronnie") in 1945, and his wife Lillian in 1964.

*Charlie is believed to be the oldest of William Andrew's brothers. He worked for the London Fire Department before moving to Toronto with his English-born wife Dollie and their daughter Pat. We don't know where they went after that.
