Shelby Wright was reared on a farm, and received a common-school education, and commenced the study of medicine in 1872 under Drs. Hampton and Coblin. He attended lectures in 1880-81, and graduated in 1882. He settled in Carroll County, where he now has a very large practice. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Politically he is a Democrat.
