****************************************************************

From a Thanksgiving letter (1990 or 1991) from great granddaughter Bernice Sconce (dau of James Wesley Sconce and Missouri Taylor), to Louise Clark Sconce [wife of Oral Sconce, and dau in law of Pearl "Ma" Prince and Wm Wesley Sconce].

"WMH Marriott b. Oct 21, 1819 and Matilda Ferrell Mariott b. Mar 5, 1819, died Mar. 26, 1901. They were born in Scotland or maybe Ireland. He was to be apprenticed as a carpenter to the Ferrell family for 7 years, before he could marry Matilda. They became impatient and ran off and came to America. Dena says there is a cabinet in the Kellett family that he made and Dena was trying to find it. My mother and my sister, Beatrice, remember Great Grandma Mariott. She did not die until 1901. Beatrice said she could remember sitting on her lap. Mother wanted her to tell them about 'the old country'. She would say: 'Oh, law me, Honey Child, I can't remember'.. I'm sure she helped raise Uncle John and my Dad as they grew up in the home of her son, Bill Mariott (Dena's grandfather) but Dad talked so little of his childhood and I never asked."

Note from Lanita: Census proves that William and Matilda were not born overseas. However, William's grandfather, William Mariott (b. 1751, Northamptonshire, England-1795, Maryland) was born in England. Perhaps family story got the 2 Williams mixed up??
