WASHINGTON, December 28, 1932 - Funeral services for Captain Albert A. Ackerman, U. S. N. retired, who died at sea December 15, while on the way from South America to the United States, were held this afternoon in Arlington National Cemetery.

Captain Ackerman was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, in 1859 and was appointed to the Naval Academy in 1876. He is survived by a son, Albert Ackerman of Villanova, Pennsylvania.

He was well known as a scientist and after serving on the USS Yantic later went to the Smithsinian Institution as a mineralogist. He also served aboard the Albatross with the United States Fish Commissionand in 1884 took part in the Greely Relief Expedition on board the USS Alert. He retired in 1910 with the rank of Captain.

During the war he was rerurned to active duty with the Thirteeneth Naval District at Puget Sound, Washington, and in 1918 became inspector of Ordnance at the Crucible Steel Company at Harrision, New Jersey.
