Henry Newton King was born in Cople Parish, Westmoreland County, Virginia on November 12, 1794. His parents were Smith King, Junior and Jane Middleton Self. The family moved to Ross Township, Butler County, Ohio by 1812. Henry first married Ann Maine on September 21, 1820 in Butler County, Ohio. After Ann's death he married Mary McGinnis. A marriage record has not been found but based on land transfers, Mary McGinnis was his wife by October 2, 1828. In the 1830's Henry and Mary moved their family to Port Jefferson in Shelby County, Ohio where they spent much of the decade. On December 11, 1838 Henry purchased land in Montgomery County, Indiana and he moved his family to Montgomery County in 1839. His homestead at 40.133 latitude and -86.94 longitude was named "The Kingdom." Henry Newton King died on July 28, 1869.

Gravesite Details

Grave is on the top of the hill on the west side of the silver maple tree. His wife Mary's stone is immediately to his south, but that stone is in much worse condition as of 2024.
