He and his family came to America in 1868, settling first in the state of New York and then to Osage City, Kansas, here he remained till 1895 when he, his wife and daughter returned to the old home in Wales.
In July 1905, he lost his devoted wife and companion and in 1910 he came again to Kansas-making his home with his son, Edward K Hughes, in Kansas City, Kansas. He died April 6th, 1920, just one week before his 86th birthday. He was a devoted Christian--a kind and loving father and grandfather. He leaves to mourn his loss one son, E K Hughes, Kansas City, Kansas, and one daughter, Annie J Hughes in Wales.
