Labette county lost a good citizen in the death of Mrs. Mary S. Swartz [sic], who passed away Friday at 9 p.m. She was active for 84 years of age and had been in usual health until Friday night when she took suddenly ill and died. Her husband died 41 years ago leaving her with three small children, all girls. She was a hard working woman and at the time of her death owned 1,000 acres of Labette county land. Besides her three daughters, Mrs. A. K. Fenton, Mrs. Hershel Finley and Mrs. Will Darling, she leaves three sisters, one brother and five grandchildren. The Rev. Dunn of the Methodist church of Cherryvale read the last rites at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Mt. Zion church amid a large crowd of relatives and friends. Burial was in the Carpenter cemetery.
