Mable was the fifth of seven children born to Rawlen and Mattie Kinkade. She was raised in the Kittitas Valley by Ellensburg. At the age of 18, she married 37 year old Ralph Looney. They had two sons and two daughters before divorcing.
She then remarried to Bill Johnston, who adopted her son Edgar. They had two sons together. They had a farm on Waller Road between Tacoma and Puyallup. Mable lived there for many years after Bill's death, finally moving to a Tacoma nursing home in her later years.
Mable had a keen sense of humor. At her funeral service, her grandchildren recalled fond memories of visiting her. She was known for always having had a cat on her lap and a stuffed animal cat was lying on top of her casket during her memorial service. Mable had picked out her beautiful casket, which had six blue panel images across it of a dove flying. A graveside service followed where her descendants placed flowers on top of her casket.
She was buried in Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma.
